Pi Craft › Toppers' blog › Summary sheets, tests and early answer-writing
Key takeaways
  • Cover the first 9 basic topics in about 6 to 7 months
  • Spend more time on analytical geometry, modern algebra, real analysis, fluid dynamics
  • Keep concise summary sheets of key formulae and ideas
  • Begin full-length answer-writing early and continue throughout

Prateek Jain chose Mathematics because his engineering degree had made it familiar, and he describes it as an optional that demands a lot of practice. He took roughly six to seven months for the nine foundational topics and far longer for the heavier subjects.

He used an institute's notes and test series to build concepts, then moved to standard textbooks for deeper practice. For the final stretch he kept short summary sheets with major formulae and results, which he notes almost every Mathematics candidate does.

His strongest message is about timing: do not wait to be fully prepared before writing answers. He wove answer-writing into preparation and started full-length tests after his first attempt.

He also observed that tougher papers mean less scaling help, so accuracy matters more than ever. Finishing the whole syllabus gives you a chance even at unfamiliar questions.
